Sweet potatoes are basically the perfect food because they're super nutritious, and equally delicious on their own. Mash 'em up with delicious spices, nutritional yeast, and some vegan butter? Now that's a side dish no one can refuse! It's creamy, sweet, and savory, AKA a perfect combination.

Sweet potato mash is a nice change from regular 'ol mashed potatoes. They also go great with all the other fixin's of a vegan holiday meal. Not sure where to start? Why not take a stab at creating my crazy holiday creation, the vegducken! I also have an ebook with some holiday recipes you won't find anywhere else. Check out hot for holidays here.

This sweet potato mash would also compliment the whole roasted cauliflower, green bean casserole, and stuffed vegan pork tenderloin too.

    ingredients

    • sweet potatoes
    • salted vegan butter
    • garlic
    • nutritional yeast
    • fresh or dried dill
    • ground nutmeg
    • sea salt
    • ground black pepper
    • pecans

People may snub their noses at your vegan mashed potatoes if they're not vegan, but that's why my recipe adds tons of flavor and swaps the dairy for vegan butter. It tastes the same and is just as rich. Tell no one of your vegan ways and I'm sure this sweet potato mash will get devoured!

In the video and recipe pictured here, I did leave the skin on the sweet potatoes. I find it's so tender that it mixes well into the sweet potato mash and doesn't muddle it up. I would never leave my skins on for regular mashed potatoes though.

This looks great. I've flagged this for Thanksgiving this year ... think I might modify slightly by making "twice-baked" sweet potatoes and adding the mash back into the sweet potato shell. Thanks for the nice post! 🙂

I made this for Thanksgiving tonight! It was awesome, I added extra of all the spices though, and also added some maple syrup into the crumbled pecans and the mash 😉 It was all gone by the end of dinner!! Everyone had seconds! Thanks Lauren <3 Btw -- 100% vegan dinner for 8 omnivore guests 😉
