This chickpea tuna sandwich was created as part of my back-to-school lunch ideas I posted to YouTube recently. I want to make sure you’re bringing healthy and tasty lunches to school, especially ones that don’t stink up the whole cafeteria! Remember when you would bring tuna to school? Thanks, Mom. Now you can feel good about what you’re packing and enjoy it, too.
This is ridiculously easy to make, and can be used on sandwiches all week long! If you need variety in ya life, you could use different toppings on each chickpea tuna sandwich to keep things interesting. Looking for more lunch inspiration? Check out my 5 easy vegan back to school bento boxes!

Hello
I believe you are from Toronto and was wondering where you found old bay seasoning as I have not seen it in Toronto. I am looking at the Chickpea tuna sandwich.
Thank you
Christine
Hi Christine
I know Loblaws carries it for sure. Either in the spice aisle or sometimes a little more hidden… in the seafood section!
I didn’t think I could find the Old Bay Seasoning either – but it was right there in the spice area of my local Independent Grocer (connected to Loblaws) so I am SURE you can find it in Toronto. I’m in a small town in SW Ontario and lived in Toronto until 3 years ago.
I bought some at Loblaws in Toronto
What happens if we do not have and never will found old bay seasoning? Thanks, Zey.
its essentialy equal parts cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, paprika, celery salt, white pepper, onion powder, ground ginger, cardamom, mace, dry mustard, ground bay leave, and ground mustard seed!!! a tiny dash of each in this recipe works out (-:

I love this recipe so much! one of the best sandwiches I’ve made and it’s so simple, which I also love.
This is the BEST chickpea tuna recipe I’ve found! It’s so delicious. The flavors are perfect. Thank you! 🙂
Holy sh-! I’m literally writing this comment as I’m chewing down these sandwiches. I knew it would be good as soon as I put it all together, but I had no idea that it would have that "tuna taste." I’m amazed. I came over to this blog after watching your vlogs on YouTube because I thought, "I’m tired of watching someone else eat bomb ass food; I should go make my own." This is the first recipe that I’ve tried and now I’m going to go try everything else.
For anyone without Old Bay seasoning (although, forreal, try to find it because it’s fantastic on popcorn), I used a little bit of cayenne and paprika, and it was also good. (I also used dried marjoram leaves, but I can’t tell you why; I put that in/on everything.)
YAY. so glad you found them to be "realistic". We were SHOCKED too when we tasted it haha 😀
I LOVE this recipe! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve made this. It’s become a staple. Thank you!
AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for sharing 😀
Made this yesterday for a quick little lunch. Super easy & yum!
I’m not vegan but I am looking to eat more healthy. Made your recipe for chickpea tuna and my mind exploded!! It’s so good and really easy to make. Making it into a wrap for lunch tomorrow!
Chickpea tuna has it going on <]:-D!!! Thanks for the super easy and scrumptious recipe.
awesome! thank you!
Wow!!! So delicious!!! I tripled the recipe and used exact measurements and ingredients. This is one of very few recipes that is absolutely perfect!
My 2 kids and my husband all loved these Sandwhiches! This made my day finding something new and vegan to make!
Had never heard of Old Bay Spice. I live in California and they had it at Whole Foods Market. It’s awesome!
Thank you for sharing this spectacular recipe with us online! You totally rock!!!
Wow! Tasted great! First recipe I’ve ever made from you (although I watch you on youtube all the time.) Will make again and test out your other recipes.
Is it okay to substitute lemon juice with lime juice?
I’ve seen Chickpea Tuna recipes around the net for years, but I never tried any of them. I was just so skeptical that they would actually taste like real tuna. I don’t know why because I make crabless cakes and they do taste like seafood. When I saw you had a recipe for it I just had to try it because I’ve enjoyed so many of your recipes.
I did make some changes, the important one is for a real seafood taste add 1 tsp ground dulse seaweed (I just grind a sheet of dulse seaweed in a coffee grinder) The others are very minor changes….added chopped green onions instead of red onions. My husband has a sensitive stomach so green onions are more mild. 1 1/2 Tbsp relish instead of chopped dill pickle. Don’t normally have dill pickles on hand. 1/2 tsp celery seed instead of chopped celery because I’m not a fan of celery stalks .
With the seaweed added to this recipe you will be blown away by the fact that it really does taste like TUNA. Thanks to you….I see a tuna melt in my future.
I use to love eating tuna sandwiches back in the day when I ate meat so when I finally made this sandwich because of Lauren’s video vlog it did not disappoint! I didn’t use the old bay seasoning because I never used it but the other ingredients I did have in my kitchen so I gave it a go at it. I really does have the taste of tuna but without the guilt. I love it, even, in the winter time ;). This recipe is a keeper.
Love this recipe! I like eating this with crackers and cucumber chips.
I used to LOVE tuna when I wasn’t vegan and I just made this for the first time and it rocked my world! Even my non-vegan mom loved it. Your blog has taught me how to make vegan food so much fun! Thank you 🙂
I absolutely love this! I tried adding in some Sriracha to the mix and it gives it a nice bite!
I’ve been making this for years, specifically Lauren’s recipe. This sandwich is just so good. It has that tuna salad vibe without any fishy taste/smell. Also, this is perfect to bring on beach days, picnics, school lunches, anything because it keeps so well. I like to make my sandwich with toasted sourdough bread and lots of iceberg lettuce on top and bottom (this will keep the bread from getting soggy and therefore it will last longer) enjoy!!
made this without the all spice and it was still delicious. I also added mushroom “bacon” from the VBLTA grain bowl recipe to my sandwich, SO excited for lunch tomorrow 😀
I’m not vegan but am pregnant and not a fan of meat so I’ve been dabbing in vegan/vegetarian recipes. This is SO GOOD! My meat eating husband loves it too!
Super tasty. I added some dijon mustard and it taste delicious.
Thank you!
Been making this recipe for years! Very tasty!
awesome!!
