The best treatments for your face should be simple and natural. But for some reason, we’ve been tricked into thinking we need expensive and exotic products to get that youthful glow. While superfoods are great for the insides, they’re just as good for the outside, too. So I dare you to open up your pantry and start experimenting with foods to make amazing beauty remedies! A great start is with this superfoods face mask containing powerful antioxidants.

You could let it sit while you soak in a bath filled with my floral bath soak for an extra relaxing night!

    superfoods face mask

This recipe makes 1 cup - enough for a spa night with a few friends. But you can halve or quarter the recipe depending on your needs. For best results, use this mask 2 to 3 times a week.

    Author Lauren Toyota

    Ingredients

    • 1 green tea bag
    • 2 tablespoon gluten-free rolled oats
    • ½ C coconut cream
    • 1 avocado
    • 2 tablespoon raw cacao powder

    Instructions

    • Brew a cup of strong green tea with one tea bag. It can sit and steep while you prepare everything else.
    • Next, run the oats through a coffee grinder for a couple of seconds just to get them broken up into smaller pieces.
    • In a mixing bowl, whip the coconut cream with a whisk or a hand mixer.
    • Scoop the avocado flesh from the peel and add it to the bowl along with the raw cacao powder, ground oats, and 2 tablespoon of steeped green tea.
    • Combine all the ingredients with a whisk or a hand mixer until smooth.
    • Apply the mixture evenly onto your face, avoiding the eyelids. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Then using some warm water and your hands gently massage the mask on your face to let the oats do some exfoliating before rinsing it all off.

    Notes

tip: keep a can of coconut cream in the fridge in advance of making this mask. It whips up better when it’s cold and it will feel nice on your face. Plus you can make a delicious and healthy dairy-free whipped cream with the leftovers!

    Lauren Toyota

Lauren is a plant-based powerhouse, a former TV host turned wildly successful food creator, best-selling cookbook author, and the woman responsible for making vegan comfort food a thing worth craving. Through her blog and YouTube channel, hot for food, she’s amassed a dedicated following by recreating all the nostalgic, indulgent dishes we love—mac & cheese, burgers, cinnamon rolls—but making them entirely plant-based. No compromise on taste, no weird ingredients, just damn good food.

What is the typical shelf life of the mask. I wondering if I can refrain from eating it 🙂

haha! I know. It's amazing because without the green tea and the oats it would make a delicious superfood pudding! I kept it in the fridge for a week and used it and then I froze the jar with some left overs. Once thawed it was perfectly fine to use again for a couple days.

Sounds nice! You say this is great for your skin but why? What does it do? "For best results use 2-3 times a week" - what are the results? Thanks!
