    lime & ginger body scrub

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe
DIY ginger lime scrub_hot for food

I recently got into making my own beauty products, like this lime ginger body scrub! It's as ethical and clean as you can get and practically costs you nothing. I'm also slowly trying to take steps toward living off the grid. But for now, as you might know, I work in TV (the farthest thing from living off the grid!) and I had the opportunity to showcase my do-it-yourself beauty recipes with MTV Fora. It's the perfect marriage of my TV life with my hot for food vegan life! I mean technically you could eat this lime & ginger body scrub. Give it a try and feel your body tingle.

Here's the snazzy DIY video created by MTV Fora.

    Prep Time 15 minutes minutes
    Servings 2 uses
    Author Lauren Toyota

    Ingredients

    • ⅛ C freshly grated ginger
    • ½ a lime, juiced
    • ½ C light or dark brown sugar
    • ¼ C virgin coconut oil (warmish/room temperature)

    Instructions

    • Peel the ginger.
    • In a mixing bowl grate the ginger into a pulp using a fine grater or rasp.
    • Add lime juice, brown sugar, and coconut oil.
    • Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients together until smooth. You could also use a whisk by hand, but the beater get’s it nice and fluffy.
    • Transfer the mixture to a wide mouth, shallow jar or a small bowl you can take into the shower.
    • To use, add warm water to your face first and then using only 1 to 2 teaspoons of the mixture gently massage it into the skin in small gentle circles using only the ring and pinky fingers of each hand and very little pressure. You only need to go over your entire face once with this motion. Then rinse your face with warm water until smooth.
    • Refrigerate any leftovers and use it a second time during the week after 3 to 4 days. It will warm up in the shower or as you rub it into the skin.

    Notes

Be very gentle when exfoliating. People tend to go nuts with scrubs, but the granules are doing the work with very little pressure.  You may need to go over any rough skin patches on your body like knees, feet, and elbows a couple of times, but when it comes to your face you want to be extra sensitive.
