baked french fries

baked french fries_hot for food

Mmm… baked french fries. There’s nothing quite ’em! Potatoes are truly a miracle food because we can make so many things with them. Most people would consider them a comfort food (which is true), but they actually have a fair amount of nutritional content! Read more about that here

Fries are also SO easy to make at home in your oven! I paired them with the best damn vegan burger and the edamame mash sandwich, but you could even just eat ’em all by themselves. They would even be great dipped in vegan ranch sauce. These take about an hour to make at home, so preheat that oven and get ready for some scrumptious spuds!

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes
  • 1/4 C vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.

  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Wash the potatoes and cut into 1/2-inch sticks, leaving the skin on. Once the water is at a rolling boil, submerge the potato sticks in the water and cook for 10 minutes or until firm fork tender.

  3. Drain the water from the pot and toss them in oil, sea salt, ground black pepper, and paprika until evenly coated. Then lay them out on parchment lined baking sheets without over crowding.

  4. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, flipping half way through. Serve immediately.

    1. sweet potatoes are notoriously hard to get crispy when baked. But we didn’t used sweet potatoes in this recipe? You can but they won’t come out as crisp!

    2. Aha! Than that’s the problem, I had sweet potatoes on hand so I tried to make fries! Thank you for your response! 🙂

  1. Your french fries are all over the place like mine I bet. I’m always trying to find some new method to make them taste like diner food. Best method I know of know is to boil them 3 minutes, only enough to cook them slightly, drain water, and then I mix in my oil and french fry seasoning (Dollar Store variety) and cook at 450 degrees for 45-50 minutes, flipping multiple times to prevent burnt fries, usually in 10 minute intervals after I cook for 25 minutes or less.

Today, I tried doing them for 55 mins and they got burnt, but some survivors!
