Falafels are a cliché for vegetarians or vegans. We end up having to eat them all the time because of a lack of options. But it's very exciting to see someone putting some thought into what gets stuffed in a pita. Rose City Kitchen just opened a day ago in Toronto (406 Queen Street West, at Spadina) and it's just what the Queen West strip needed. They were working out a few kinks in their assembly line when I was in, but it doesn't much matter when the food is fresh, inventive, and fancy. And you can eat for under $10!
They've got 3 size options and 4 vegan sandwich options, plus salads and sides. I had the RCK Original stuffed with chickpeas, hummus, tabouleh, homefries, carrots, lettuce, garlic oil, and cherry harissa dressing, and the Moroccan stuffed with chickpeas, harissa dressing, couscous, lettuce, red onion, tomato, almonds, apricots, and parsley... and was stuffed! The only thing I didn't get to try was their house made hot sauce with harissa and rose petal. See, fancy! In fact, I think it's so good that someone stole the bottle from the restaurant.
verdict: definitely eat here... multiple times a week if you can!
