niagara vegfest 2014

Lauren and I decided to make the drive down to st. catharines for niagara vegfest 2014 and I have to say that I was pretty blown away. This was my first ever veg fest and I was impressed by the turnout! It was incredible to see so many amazing and inspiring people gathered under one roof, some of which have now become our friends in the community. Being a proud and new-ish vegan I can’t wait to show off my “kale is the new beef” t-shirt that I bought from chef Doug McNish. The organizers did an awesome job of hand selecting a variety of vendors from around southern ontario with a mix of unique food, products, and vegan outreach and info.

One of the toughest decisions at the festival was deciding where to eat! Walking through the marketplace every table was offering up some sort of tasty take away, but Lauren and I had our hearts set on something extra special. We made our way to karma chamealeon, a vegan food truck based out of hamilton that lots of people have been telling us about. We opted for the no piggy pulled pork, jamaican jerk tacos, and coconut onion rings. The tacos and pulled pork were solid and both made out of pulled jack fruit which was interesting and light, but the real winner was the onion rings. They were the perfect combination of crunchy and fluffy and the shaved coconut added both a texture and sweetness that was even better when paired with sweet chili dipping sauce.

verdict: there’s only one karma chamealeon food truck, so follow it everywhere and order one of everything.

Glad to hear you loved coming to St. Catharines! Now, note the correct spelling. It’s a common mistake.
