When I was in L.A. in November I was so excited to get a note from Thug Kitchen asking me to be on their podcast, Forked Up. I was actually the first vegan cookbook author they have ever had on the show… what an honor! They specifically wanted to talk about my relationship (or rather, break up) with John Diemer. I was ready. Listen to the interview here to find out what some of the road blocks were to making a cookbook while your life is blowing up in your face and some of what’s next for hot for food.
I have to say, Matt Holloway and Michelle Davis of Thug Kitchen are rad cool and I admire their bad ass business sense. You can check out the Thug Kitchen blog for tasty recipes too!
As part of my partnership with Yves Veggie Cuisine I’m making a few appearances on Cityline in 2018 and 2019 to help bring the brand into homes across Canada. I’ve actually used Yves products since I went vegetarian as a teenager. Their veggie dogs were the first ones ever in my mouth, so this is a match made in vegan heaven!
I’m so happy to share ways to eat more vegan comfort foods everyday with the help of Yves. You can see the 2 dishes I made on the episode that aired Dec 5, 2018 below. The hot buffalo chicken dip is of course, from Vegan Comfort Classics: 101 Recipes to Feed Your Face. The original recipe uses TVP as the chicken, but you can easily swap in the Yves veggie Chicken Strips. And the sweet & sour meatball recipe is here. Instead of making the homemade version you can just whip up the sauce and brown up some Yves Veggie Meatballs instead to keep it quick and easy!
I’ve been making the rounds on television… uh vegan takeover in full effect… and recently I stopped by the etalk studios to cook up some vegan holiday love with host, Chloe Wilde. A little known fact… I crowned Chloe the winner of the 2013 MuchMusic VJ Search in my past life! But look at us now!
I shared my recipe for the whole roasted cauliflower skillet with the goal of influencing you to add more veggies to the holiday table and axe the turkey. Watch the segment below
The Marilyn Denis show is getting more and more interested in vegan cooking! I went back to talk about the mysteries and magic of jackfruit, making my roasted poblano & jackfruit taco recipe. You’ll never believe there’s no meat in this… watch below.
Holy vegan meatballs! The hot for food cookbook, Vegan Comfort Classics: 101 Recipes to Feed Your Face won the VegNews 2018 Veggie Award for best cookbook… all because of YOU! Y’all voted and voted, and gave this book so much love. I seriously can’t thank you enough! Pick up the VegNews holiday issue to see all the winners including a ton of the best of the best vegan food brands… plus that cake! I think you want that cake recipe…
This is freakin' huge! Someone thought it was a good idea to put me on the front cover of Chatelaine magazine the month my cookbook comes out. Not only that, but they named me one of 23 women changing the way you eat! You know what that means?! Yup, #vegantakeover is definitely in full effect now. Read my featured interview here.
And you can read a writer from the magazine give the debut hot for food cookbook the full review here!
Look at this! One Green Planet - one of the biggest veg resources on the internet - placed hot for food in the #1 spot on their list of 10 Vegan YouTubers That Will Inspire You To Cook. WOW! I went and blew Tracy Moore's mind on Cityline by making the magic vegan nacho cheese and smothering it over a big 'ol plate of chili cheese nachos!
You can watch the full segment and the reaction here.
It was such a surprise to see my face on the cover of IMPACT Magazine! They never told me I'd be on the cover! But I did know they were in the middle of compiling a list of Canada's Top Vegan Influencers. There's some incredible people on this list and it's so exciting to see more and more people getting turned on to the vegan lifestyle because of the internet. Like I always say, vegan takeover is in full effect.

We've following the millennial friendly food party over at Spoon University for a while now and I guess they recently caught wind of the vegan food porn we've been cooking up here at hot for food!
I recently did an interview with one of their writers, Nathalie Kent (who goes to McGill University!), and she had the balls to call me YouTube's vegan queen! WHAT! I'm totally blushing.
Read the interview here for tips and tricks for food photography and what we advise college students to do if they want to go vegan!
It was really awesome to be able to share our delectable vegan cheesecake recipe with the highly fashionable readers of Flare Magazine! The crew came over to the house with a hair stylist, make up artist, and people to dress me! It was quite a different day then the norm... when I'm usually in my pj's until 5pm and haven't left this computer chair.
I'm fancy, huh!
Thank goodness for google translation! We received a tweet informing us that we were mentioned as one of the top 5 vegan YouTube channels in this, apparently very large, Swedish press outlet. There is a new vegan food show on television in Sweden and it's receiving a lot of criticism for being too far removed from everyday living and eating, thereby discouraging people from a plant-based diet. They mention us, along with our internet friends Mary's Test Kitchen and Jenny Mustard as the vegan inspo they should have tried to emulate! I mean, I think that's what it said... I hope the translation was accurate!
We envision a day when having a plant based TV show is no big deal, and it comes off accessible and not weird. While there was really only one we knew about (Jason Wrobel's "How To Live to 100" on Cooking Channel in the USA) it's still nice that some where far far away they've attempted to do it as well! #vegantakeover is happening in big big ways!
We made some new friends! The cool peeps at VerMints hit us up and wanted to talk about how to adopt a vegan lifestyle and more tips for compassionate living, so of course, we were all for it. Read the full interview with Lauren Toyota here!
And if you're looking to freshen your breath the all-natural way, check out more about VerMints here.
